Ted George - Hon.Treasurer

From pay clerk to artilleryman, buyer to sales manager, plus a dozen things in between, let us introduce you to the Branch Treasurer. Ted has had a wide variety of jobs, and his interests have led him into further work at a time when many would be putting their feet up for a well-earned rest.

Arriving in Swansea in the Autumn of 1993, it took Ted only three months before his wife and stepdaughter Anne, who was the manager of the day centre at Garngoch, suggested that he meet our Secretary David to see what he could do to help. The meeting led to the Branch acquiring Ted's services. His specific task is to manage our finances and to remind the Branch Committee of our financial commitments. By this method he makes certain that we work within our financial capabilities.

During his time in office, Ted has seen our turnover rise from around £20,000 a year to £200,000 and this has been matched by a growth in services that we provide. He believes that the biggest change has been this growth in services and the increase in the number of volunteers. "They have brought specialisation, such as personnel knowledge and computer skills to meet the changing needs of the Branch and legislation. In turn, that has brought about a greater need for financial control as funds are being sought to meet the expanding demands." says Ted.

Outside interests include walking dogs, reading - mainly of a historical military nature, and dodging his wife to avoid being given more work!
