With the re-forming of the Branch in December 1989, David was approached by our President, Dr.Don Williams, asking him to consider becoming involved as the Secretary of the Alzheimer's Society. Consideration had to be given to the demands this would place upon him, as he had to retire from his role as bank manager due to health difficulties. Fortunately for the Branch he agreed, and the work of formulating the Branch's activities began.
As Secretary, almost every activity affecting the Branch had David's fingerprint somewhere along the way. Of all the duties he undertakes, he thinks the hardest aspect of the job is to ensure that he uses all the skills that the volunteers bring with them to their best advantage. Not everyone can type, not everyone feels comfortable answering the telephone without knowing what problem they may encounter. David's role is to slot the right person into the right job.
David hopes to see the Branch maintain and extend its services, and he feels the need to be always raising money so that the work does not stand still. Like everyone else, our Secretary is a volunteer who fits in Branch duties with his family commitments. He is married with three sons, one of whom has been a Branch volunteer for 12 years, and his wife Sue who is also a volunteer. David is a keen follower of sport and a Deacon of the Baptist Church he attends.
