- 86 THEATRE
DESIGN ( Equity member)
Many small theatre groups, both in T.I.E. and experimental theatre were forming in S.Wales at this time. They grew out of the financial and ethical provisions for Theatre in Education by Arts Councils & Local Authorities as well as a general trend toward the funding of the Performing Arts. Through my work with Transitions Trust I was first asked by the newly formed Hijinx Theatre to design for them. This ranged from graphic work to the casting of life-masks and the design and construction of sets and props. My practical and inventive range of art & design skills were well used and extended in this work - other commission followed. HIJINX THEATRE SPECTACLE THEATRE - Set Design for 'KIK THE KAT' - Graphic work for 'Easy Terms ' 'Ship Of Fools' - 'Hard Times' - 'Hamelin's Children' - 'Breaking The Ice' and 'IT'.Archiving of companies visual material on presentation panels. Memeber of the design pool. CORACLE THEATRE - Milford Haven - Set Design etc. For 'GALILEO' - Graphic work for 'Gas Masks & Gumboots.' TELIESYN FILMS - Cardiff - Assistant to the Art Director Christine Kinder on two films for S4C. VISUALISER - Summer Scheme Projects - Working with a team of dance teachers, students and children - Rubicon Dance Centre Cardiff and The Parc & Dare Centre, Treorchy. After
this period of theatre design I decided not to take on any
further set design commissions. Although I enjoyed the challenge
of the work and its social aspects - it was not my intention to
make it a career.
