Early workers with closed circuit video performances in schools.

78 - 80 HTV WALES - Freelance Illustration - Numerous cartoon series for children's television series 'Stori Sbri'. Characterizations for the 'Glyn Dwr' serial in the 'Goglis' programme. Illustrations in various media and styles for camera panning / sound and voice over.

78 - 80 '3,600 SECONDS WITH THE -THE HUNDRED TON MOON ORKESTRA' - Brunch Music augmented with L.Motram,Piano - W. Evans,Percussion - performance artist Dek Leverton of Paupers Carnival and the dancer Molly Kenny. This multi media project was planned for two concerts only at Chapter Theatre.

78 - 80 NATIONAL MUSEUM OF WALES - Schools Services - Designer and illustrator for the presentation of Iron Age and Roman Period artifact cases - design of history trail cards for visiting school parties - teaching role in art workshops within the museum with visiting groups .

80 - 81 SILKSCREEN PRINTER - 'Dial-A-Sign' - Large screens using a semi-automatic bed, printing in all inks on all surfaces.

80 - 82 'THE MAGIC CITY ORCHESTRA' - Seven piece ensemble playing mainly scored music's. For our debut concert we commissioned the international composer Lyell Creswell who with the help of Arts Council funding wrote 'A Period Of Catharsis'.Lyell was also a member of the group. The MCO also ran open evening sessions and musics workshops at Chapter Arts Centre.

81 - 82 'FAMINE' - A poetry/performance group with P.J.oDonoghue, K.M.Martin and G.Lougher of Hijinx Theatre - performing our own work and pieces by painter poets such as Kurt Schwitters and Hans Arp.

Design, and graphics for their first show 'The Intergalactic Bargain Basement' and for four subsequent touring shows including 'NOAH'S LARK' & 'GULLIBLES TRAVELS' Graphics only for -'Echoes' - 'House At The Edge Of The World' - 'Fall of the Roman Empire' & 'Stairway to Heaven' I continue to be an associate member of Hijinx Theatre.

VISUALISER - Summer Scheme Projects - Working with a team of dance teachers, students and children - Rubicon Dance Centre Cardiff and The Parc & Dare Centre, Treorchy.

After this period of theatre design I decided not to take on any further set design commissions. Although I enjoyed the challenge of the work and its social aspects - it was not my intention to make it a career.

84 - 89 'THE HEAVY QUARTET' - Founder member along with R.Smith, J.Phillips, N.Langford and M.Shepherd. This group grew out of the M.C.O. but played a much wider range of venues. Many club engagements and appearances at Brecon Jazz Festival - Cardiff Jazz Festival and a two week residency at Liverpool Garden/Jazz Festival. The group continues through various incarnations and  has recorded a number of CD's.

85 - 96 ILLUSTRATION COMMISSIONS
After theatre design I turned to illustration to earn a living. ( By working at home in my studio, I could more easily carry on with my painting. ) At various times I had three agents for illustration - 'The Artmarket' in Covent Gdn, London and 'The Lynn Towns Agency' in Cardiff , both for publishing and advertising - and Wavecrest Studios, London for applied ceramic designs. I have all the traditional skills to be an illustrator and I am fascinated by its world. Having been involved in it - I found it gave me a deeper perspective on the Arts in general. I was able to do a variety of work - from highly finished Airbrush work to cartoons.

SOFTWARE - COMPUTER SKILLS
Except for some initial training on Apple Macs - I am self taught, mostly through involvement with a number of art and design projects that I could not have completed without a strong commitment to the learning curve the software required. Photoshop is my base program and I use it for just about everything. I learned through Photoshop 5 and 5.5 and am now the proud owner of Photoshop 6.
For video/animation work and compositing sound and images I use anything I can get my hands on - I find most Non Linear Editors to be comparable in what they do, if not in the way they do it - but I've worked a lot with Adobe Premier from v.4 through to v.6 on Mac and PC and find it intuitive and easy to use.
Other packages such as Bryce 3D,and Poser have their uses in certain projects - really it's anything that will get the job done.
I've used Director to compile CD Roms but find it overly complex and expensive - this seems to be true for all industry standard software.
Since 1999 I've designed and maintained this website, I've tried various software solutions in designing the pages and ordering the large ammount of content - but have found Dreamweaver allied to Photoshop to be the best solution for me.

86 - 88 EXHIBITION DESIGN - 'ELY OLD AND NEW' - A long running project funded by The Welsh Arts Council and Dr Barnardos - to archive and exhibit visual and written material which was compiled from - research - family donations - and business collections. It was designed to tour as a complete package to all sorts of community venues and was Co-ordinated by Nigel Billingham with photographic work by Martin Roberts. ELY OLD & NEW has since been published in book form by N. Billingham & Steve.Jones - Chalford Publishing

PAINTING & EXHIBITIONS
My practice as an Artist has been diverse and continuous. As a serious painter, I have been able to 'work quietly' at what I want to do without the need or temptation to have to exhibit or to get caught up in a 'career structure' - this produces its own problems to do with a lack of visibility within the ' Art World'- but every Artist has to find their way through that particular maze. An important point in the development of my painting was the concentration I put into the work that became ' GILEAD ' and the period directly afterwards - when I began to paint in the Black Mtns. with fellow artists K. M. Martin and P. J. o'Donoghue.
A 'day out' painting became a four year intensive re-evaluation of all my artwork. This period has helped set a stamp on my painting and I continue to develop what I found in the landscape through paint & other media including computer manipulation.

Sept 2002 THE BIG MIX - Series of 6 'Ex Libris Ur' paintings. Self curated integrated exhibition with Lyle Osborne. We exhibited twenty artists, a mix of professional- amateur and those with learning difficulties.

OTHER INFORMATION.
In 1991 I did an Apple Macintosh training course at CVS Cardiff - Since then I've worked mainly on PC systems and am very involved in the challenge of translating and broadening my range of skills within the digital domain. The various publishing possibilities of word, sound , image and video make it an ideal Multimedia platform for my professional interests.
I play Saxophones, Guitar and Electronic Keyboards - Music has always had an important place in my art practice and social life.Elected Parent Governor at St Monica's Church In Wales School, Cathays for a four year term of service.
Involved with Cathays Community Centre on various projects where my skills can be of use. I have a son Sam with my partner - and a daughter Zoe by a previous marraige.Through working freelance from home I have been able to enjoy a
prime role in childcare responsibilities for my son Sam. Since Oct 1999 I have been a part time Library Assistant at The University of Wales,Information Services - The Law Library - Cardiff.
