LOCAL GOVERNMENT WORK
As Archivist at the Hereford County Record Office (1988-2003) I set up a survey of business records in the county and this resulted in some deposits. It also meant publicising the survey in the local media. I also wrote regular articles for the Hereford City Council and Friends of the Record Office newsletters and produced leaflets on house history, types of documents and accessioning.
In 1988 I worked as Contract Archivist at the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland on a six month post funded by the Leverhulme Trust listing the papers of the Noel family/Dukes of Gainsborough. I appraised and item-listed about 60 boxes in a large collection, reported to the project sponsors, and provided data for a funding bid.
From 1986-1987 I worked as Business Archives Survey Officer and Archives Assistant at the Centre for Kentish Studies. The first post was funded by the Manpower Service Commission to survey businesses in Kent. This involved contacting businesses and appraising, surveying and listing records, which were either deposited as a result of the survey or retained by the businesses.
