Roy Castle, OBE, loved Laurel & Hardy. Roy loved to impersonate Stan Laurel. Roy was a singer, comedian, dancer, musician and actor, all at the highest level. He was in constant demand for cabaret, variety, films, after-dinner speaking and theatre. He had a long list of TV hits to his credit, including the enormously popular Record Breakers.
Roy was born in the village of Scholes in Yorkshire, and went on to become a talented musician, dancer and actor. He was treated for lung cancer in March 1992 but the disease reappeared in November the following year. At the beginning of 1994 Roy Castle launched the Cause For Hope Appeal. During his fundraising campaign he suffered complications from the growth of two brain tumours - but he never let up in his efforts and never failed to find a smile for his public. He died at his home in Buckinghamshire on September 2nd 1994, at the age of 62. He leaves a widow, Fiona and four children.
