The
red lines on this black and white image show where Dr Waner made the incisions. Anna was four hours late in having her surgery. Dr Waner's previous patient took longer than he had anticipated. It was difficult for us to keep Anna occupied as she had not had any milk for over 12 hours and was very hungry. She had not had any water for over seven hours and keep pleading for us to give her some. |

Anna in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit just after her operation. One of Anna's teeth had to be taken out as her two front teeth were accidentally knocked and loosened whilst she was being given the anaesthetic. Wednesday 28th April 2004. | ![]() |

Both photographs of Anna taken the day after her operation (29th April 2004). Anna had a
drain inserted above her eye, this was to drain away any excess fluid
so she would not swell up so much. This was a constant irritation to Anna
and was removed after two days after she pulled it slightly out. |
