Welcome to the Cross Lodge Charity Page

The members of the RAOB don't look for recognition towards the charitable activities they do, but feel they have done their duty to better mankind in some small way.

Pleasure is always taken from the knowledge that we as individual men have been able to assist in some small way to help others.

Her Worship the Mayor of Newport 1989 - Mrs Rosemary Butler

The text reads as follows:-

NEWPORT RAOB club are continuing their dedicated work for the disabled with their sixth wheelchair donation to a leisure service in the borough.

The small but hardworking lodge presented the Newport Centre with a chair to help disabled swimmers in and out of the pool and the mayor, Councillor Rosemary Butler (pictured above), was on hand to accept the much needed gift.

She also received two commemorative plaques from the lodge to mark the work done for disabled people in Newport.

Lodge secretary Ronald "Tex" Shapland said: "We gave her one plaque to hang in the mayor's parlour and one for herself.  We feel she has done so much for the disabled herself that she deserves something to commemorate it."

The lodge, which has already provided four wheelchairs to Tredegar House, were honoured themselves when awarded the RAOB Provincial Grand Lodge of Monmouthshire Volunteer Benevolent Award.

The award is given to the lodge in Gwent that raises the most money.

Since then further chairs have been donated, (as shown below) and we were delighted to hear of Rosemary Butler being elected as a member of the Welsh Assembly.  Congratulations you deserve the recognition!
