For The People of Dover,
Who Gave Their Lives During WW1 and WW2.
Dover`s 1st Website to cover the names on The Dover War Memorial and The Town`s War dead.
The Dover
War Memorial, has 8
Bronze panels attached to it and each panel contains a list of names. I
have numbered the panels from 1 to 8, with panel number 7 belonging to
the WW2 period.
Click
on one of the Panel numbers below, to take you to the names on that
panel. I have added infomation to the names myself, to include Service
No, Regiment, Date of death etc.. But Beware,
not all of the names have any extra information as I am still trying to
trace these men, also some of the information may not be correct for a
particuler person. If you find any incorrect information
please get in touch and I will correct it. If you have any information
that I can add to a name please get in touch.
The
information for this site was compiled from various sources: To
include, The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (C.W.G.C.). Soldiers
Died in the Great War CD Rom, from The Naval and Military Book Store.
Also Soldiers Died in the Great War Books. Regimental Histories, The
Dover
Library, Parish Records, The National Archives, (the PRO.)
Many Thanks to Mark
Frost, Assistant Curator of The Dover Museum, For all his help and
information.
I have also listed the
Men and Women who fell in both world wars and who are intered in
Dover`s Cemetery`s. Please click on a link below to take you
to a list:
Below
are links to pages I would like you to look at. These are lists of men
and women, who were either Born or Resident in Dover,
but are not listed on the Dover War Memorial. I can think of 3 reasons
for this:
The next of kin refused permission
to have their names added to the Memorial.
When the list was being drawn up,
the next of kin had moved away and could not be traced.
I would also like you to look at the Possible
links below. This is a list of men who`s Surname and initials fit
someone on the memorial, but I cannot find a Dover connection for them,
maybe you can.
