About me in brief.
My name is Gareth Moore and I was born in The Dover Buckland Hospital in the last Century, which makes me a Dovorian and a bit of an old fart. I have lived in Dover for the past 34 years, mainly in the Buckland area and I am a lone parent with an 18 year old daughter to look after, and believe me it is easier to look after this website. I have been interested in both World Wars since I was a kid, mainly WW2, I got my first computer in late 1999. For the first few years I had the old dial up connection and when you were online nobody could get in touch with you by telephone. About 5 years ago I went over to Broadband and the internet suddenly opened up, so I decided to study WW2. I went around in circles for a few months until I realised that I would have to start from WW1 and after 5 years I am still doing WW1. I have, over the last few years, collected a number of WW1 medals to casualtys and in January of 2006 I won a single Victory medal at an Auction to a local man who was killed in action in 1917. So I set about my usual research only to find that although his name was on the Dover war memorial, that`s all there was, just a couple of Websites showing pictures of the memorial and a transcription of names. I decided to research the memorial myself. After searching for some 800 names, I found myself short of about 100 names so I decided to search the local Cemetery`s and found another 800 odd. I thought I would do those as well and as you can see I have covered not only the memorial but all our local cemeteries that contained men and women from both world wars. This is my first website and I have not had any help in building it so it is pretty basic, but hey it is only a database and its not meant to be anything else. If you have any information on a particular name that you would like to add please get in touch and I will add it. I have spent hundreds of hours on researching these men and women and Hundreds of Pounds, this is the first website to cover The Dover War Memorial. This is an ongoing project and the site will be maintained and updated on a regular basis. This site has been funded entirely by myself and will be in the future.
