N.O.V. Holder - "M0OBW"
GB3MP
was the only repeater in Wales when licensed on 1st April 1976.
It is sited at the TV Transmitter Site of Moel-y-Parc at the north end of the Clwydian Range near Denbigh, North Wales.
Arthur - G8AWS who built and maintained the repeater for many years, provided a much modified TR7200 receiver (donated by Lowes of Matlock) and a modified (for 2m) Pye U450L Transmitter, driving a Microwave Modules 100w RF amplifier (donated by Microwave Modules).
Bob - GW8SIE
at that time on the technical staff at the site, built the homebrew logic controller.
Howell - G3ATZ made a Rack/Cabinet (needed to match the smartness of the Transmitter Hall). This housed the antenna filters in the base with the logic, Rx and Tx in the remainder of the cabinet.
Morris - GW8FQF provided the wide band folded dipole antennas.
Gordon - G3LEQ provided the low loss co-ax feeder cable
.
A long length of coax was needed as the base of the Moel-y-Parc Mast is some 100 metres below the summit, and all round coverage was required.
Morris - GW8FQF
later provided an ex pmr Pye T60FM Transmitter (which remained in use with the original receiver until the early 1990's).
These were then replaced with an ex pmr SOLID STATE transmitter and receiver. The Logic has also been updated.
The present antennas are still vertical folded dipoles for both transmit and receive.
