26/03/03 - UPDATE
It looks as though we shall all be available (wind permitting) on Wednesday 2 April to put the GB3LI aerial up. A new Stacked dipole WSA440OMT0 (410--470MHz) is on order from 'Sigma Wireless' in Ireland.
It is a direct but mechanically improved replacement for our existing 'but falling to bits'
AN-SA460 Stacked dipole.
If this does not arrive in time we will as a temporary measure fall back to using my spare aerial which although not for our band appears to work with an acceptable SWR. (its a 450-470MHz SA460 Stacked dipole).
01/04/03 - UPDATE ON AERIAL INSTALLATION
Due to predicted 25mph winds it will not be possible to install the aerial on Wednesday 2 April as planned.
The next date weather permitting will be Monday 7th April.
07/04/03 - UPDATE
The aerial was fitted to the temporary (may become permanent) fixture this morning Monday 7th April by G4OAR and G4EID and at the same time I checked out the repeater using a dummy load etc..
The installation was approved by the site owners representative (who happens to be licensed as M1ELR) and approved for switch on at 9.30am..
11/05/03 UPDATE.
The new aerial for GB3LI has been checked out and weather (wind less than
5mph) and peoples work commitments permitting, will be installed on the
morning of Friday 16 May.
16/05/03 UPDATE.
A new commercial 4 dipole collinear aerial has been installed at the site of
GB3LI to replace the 20 year old one. The aerial has omni directional
coverage compared to the old one that gave a few dB null out to sea. There
were a few other minor nulls which should now have been removed. The aerial
was installed in heavy rain and gusty wind by G4EID and G4OAR and then
inspected by the site rep (off duty known as M1ELR).
As usual G3WIC stayed warm and under cover and did the SWR check on the
final installation.
I will keep you all informed via this WEBSITE. - KEN G3WIC
