Crest: On a Wreath of the Colours on Water Barry wavy a Lymphad sail set proper and charged with a Cogwheel Sable Flags and Pennon flying Gules.
Supporters: On the dexter side a Sea Horse and on the sinister side a Tabby Cat guardant both proper.
Motto: LET US GO FORWARD.INTERPRETATION Shield: The black horizontal line between silver borders symbolises the oil pipes of the petroleum industry, and the blue vertical line betwen similar borders represents the Manchester Canal on which Ellesmere Port is the first inward Port of call. The Beaver in the First Quarter of the Shield refers to industry, while the Cross in the Second Quarter suggests loyalty. The heraldic golden sheaf or 'Garb', which since the thirteenth century has been traditionally associated with the Earldom and County of Chester, appears in the Third Quarter, and the Cornucopia in the Fourth Quarter suggests prosperity.
Crest: The blue and white wavy lines are significant with the River Mersey, and tha ancient ship of commerce (or 'Lymphad' in heraldic language) denotes the Borough's status as a Port and ancient maritime associations. The cogwheel on the sail of the Lymphad is another symbolic reference to industry.
Supporters:The Sea Horse has reference to the Borough's connection with the sea, while the symbolism of the 'Tabby Cat' with its 'Cheshire Grin' is self-evident.
Motto: The Motto 'LET US GO FORWARD' was previously in Latin form 'PROGREDIAMUR'.
