About Huddersfield
My Hometown
Grateful thanks to Frank Carr for permission to use his pictures
Huddersfield (formerly a County Borough), is
now known as Kirklees Metropolitan Borough.
In it's heyday it was a very important town to the
Yorkshire WOOLEN Industry.
Also a major industrial engineering centre.
It still has an important engineering role to play overall.
There are excellent shopping facilities with Pedestrian
precincts and several shopping arcades plus very good
hotels and restaraunts.
Huddersfield has easy access to the M62 motorway
east and west, but it's main attraction for tourists is the
Penine access to the most beautiful Penine scenery.
Historically, Huddersfield was a very early settlement, the
site known locally as 'Castle Hill' goes back to Neolithic
times around 2100 BC and later became an Iron Age fort.
Henry de Lacey built a castle on the hill about 1140 AD, it
was destroyed around 1322 AD.
Holmfirth just below the Holme Moss TV mast is the location
and surrounds where most of the TV series
'Last of the Summer Wine' is made.
.....I wonder who this cool dude is.....
