DJ-580E frequency expansion

    This  message is of interest to all who have bought the excellent ALINCO
    DJ-580E hand held dual band transceiver.

    The  extended  receive  range  is activated by  applying  the  following
    procedure:-

    1) With  the  power on, hold the function key in and select FL from  the
       FL/PL switch on the key pad.

    2) Key in #212, the display then reads "OPEN"

    that is it! the RX range is now 130-174Mhz
                                    400-470Mhz
                                    825-945Mhz

    The  display will register outside these ranges, but in practice the  RX
    is either non existant, or very poor.

    If the unit is opened and the RED wire under the battery connector plate
    cut,  this  will give you an additional AM band 108-143Mhz, but this  is
    covered in the manual, the other "mod" is not.
