Extended RX for Alinco DJ500E dual band handie ============================================== To enable extended Rx from 130-170 and 420-470MHz, the removal of a surface mount zero-ohm resistor (link) is required. ******************** WARNING - TREAT AS CMOS ********************** 1) Record the contents of memories/settings you wish to keep, as this mod will wipe all user-defined settings. 2) Remove battery pack, and unscrew the 3 black screws on the back casing. Also remove the two chrome-plated screws in the bottom of the main unit that hold the battery connector to the FRONT (ie the keypad/display) casing. 3) Carefully remove the front casing by gently pulling the bottom of the two halves apart, taking care not to damage the plastic lugs that hold the top panel to the top of the front casing. Open out the two halves. 4) **Using a very small soldering iron** Remove a link from the bottom left of the front (display/keypad/mic/speaker) PCB. To identify it, starting from the speaker cutout in the lower part of the board, a preset pot may be seen in the 4 o'clock position. Approximately 10mm to the left of the pot are three sets of solder pads. A link (it could be a "resistor" marked "000") will be in the centre position. Its removal gives extended Rx. 5) Removal of the link in the 11 o'clock position relative to the preset pot is not recommended as this extends the Tx range. The other links may select foreign frequency options and settings, but have not been tried. 6) Re-assemble the unit, and with the battery connected and power switch in the "ON" position, press the "reset" button located just below the PTT. This performs a RESET, and the radio will now recognise the extended frequencies. Note: Step 5. Transmitting out of band is a serious offence and carries heavy penalties. 73 Gordon G7HQB @ GB7BMX ======================================================================== (Downloaded From GB7SYP)
