Receiver extended frequency ============================ Below is the details of how to perform the modification to the Alinco DJ120E 2 meter handheld for extended receive. I managed to find the modifaction by sheer luck, but am very happy to of done it `myself`. To perform the mod. :- Remove the front cover off the alinco rig, NOTE: the top of the rig will need to be removed first, to allow the front of the rig to come off freely. Move the front of the rig to one side, you cannot move it very far as the front cover of the rig is attachted to the rest of the rig my a audio cable attached to the speaker. On looking on the inside of the front of the rig, you will see the underside of a PCB, with the components on the other side. On the top side of this PCB, i.e, the side which is seen first after removing the front cover you will see on the bottom right of the board an electret condensor microphone. To the left of this you should see two metal wire links. These need to be cut to perform the mod. The diagram below shows what to cut. |------------------------| | | | | Front panel of the rig. | | | | | | | | | | | + | | 1 | |---| | +--+ represents the | + |mic| | wire link. | +--+ |---| | | 2 | |------------------------| With a pair of sharp cutter pliers, snip link number 1. This will give you extended receive. If you would like extended transmit, then cut link number 2 also. When the link(s) are cut, close the rig back up, and screw it together. For the modification to work, you need to reset the CPU, to do this, look on the bottom right of the from of the rig case, and you will see a very tiny hole. Obtain a sharp pencil or any sharp point, and with the rig switched on press the sharp object into the hole. This will press a tiny button, and reset the rig. You will now notice that the memories in the rig have reset to 145.000 Doing a quick scan across the band you should notice it go past 146.000 and upwards. The coverage I obtained was from 130.000 to 174.000 Mhz. so not bad at all for a basic handheld. I do not take any responsibility for any thing done to the rig, or for the use of the rig after modification. But there is little to go wrong when performing the modification, and i consider it worth while to do if you have one of these handhelds. One of the amateur radio shops quoted me in the region of 20 quid to perform this mod for me, all for cutting two links! easy money...So i was quite releived when i found the mod myself. Hope some of you give it a try, and do doubt you`ll have fun listening round the band. 73`s for now, de Tom G7KSR @ GB7OAR >>>>> ======================================================================== (Downloaded from GB7SYP)
