Pothcurno Telegraph Museum

We went for holiday to New Quay and during our stay we visited this museum, It is a really nice place and well worth the effort to get there. It has full facilitys for disabled and my Wife was able to visit every part of it except the escape stairs out of the tunnel. There is a lot of equipment to see and lot of hands on stuff for children and adults alike. I attended a short lecture given by a gentleman who had worked there in the 1960's, the talk lasted about 20 minutes and was very interesting starting with the story of morse and then the telegraph system and then a history about the cables across the Atlantic and around the world. He demonstrated some cable equipment and also the spark transmitter shown in one of the pictures below.

Visit the website at  http://www.porthcurno.org.uk/ for much more information and photos.

Inside the Amateur Shack. equipment going back to before WWII. There is an Icom 751 that looked like it is operated from time to time, I signed the visiters book and could see amateurs from around the world had signed in, only me ther that day though.
