TANK MAINTANCE
DAILY
Switch on the room lights several min's before you turn on the aquarium light's
to provide the fish with a gradual daybreak.
Check on the health of all fish remove any with Sign's of illness place in
hospital tank.
Check water temp and adjust if necessary.
Feed fish in the morning and again at night. Nocturnal fish should be offered
food just before lights out.
Switch off tank light's several minutes before room light's are turned off.
WEEKLY
Check the heater thermostat for sign's of fault's and replace if anything is
amiss.
Check the ph, hardness, ammonia and nitrate level's of the water and adjust if
necessary. If altering any of the parameters do so gradually it's not the
magnitude of a change but the abruptness with which it is carried out.
Check your food and medication and replenish if need be.
Allow your fish to fast for one day per week except for growing fish or those
being conditioned for breeding.
EVERY TWO WEEK'S
Turn off all equipment.
Rake the gravel or what ever substrate you have.
Scrape encrusted algae from the front of the aquarium.
Wait for the debris to settle then siphon it off along with about 20.25% of the
aquarium water.
Replace this with freshwater adjusted to meet the chemistry of the aquarium
water also try to match the temperature as well also add a dechlorinator.
Switch on the aerator or power filtration.
N.B If this water change is be done first thing in the morning then let the
water run for about several min's this this will lessen the risk of introducing
toxic chemical's I.E copper from standing in your household pipe's.
EVERY THREE/FOUR WEEK'S
Switch off the aerations or power filtration and rinse all non biological media
under a running tap or replace if need be. All Biological media should be rinsed
in aquarium water so has not to destroy their culture's of beneficial bacteria.
Under no circumstances should detergents be used they are highly toxic.
