I used to play at Biggleswade Rugby club from the age of 10 until I was 16.  I played for the Colts team a few times too.  My coach used to be Brain Taylor (Ross Taylor's father) who has now, unfortunately, passed away.  I was the Captain for about 5 seasons.  There used to be a team photo of us up in the club house.  I played alongside Ross Taylor, Russ Collerbone, Dean Hankins,Simon Jarvis.  I remember a few good tours to Blackpool and Isle of Wight!

I am a Petty Officer (Caterer) in Royal Navy and live in the Portsmouth area.  I still play today for my ships team, and played all around the world including France, Caribbean, Far East and the USA.

Andrew Savage, one of the Midlands Championship winning Biggleswade U17s team we had a few seasons back made his National League 1 debut today (17 March 2007) playing on the wing for Nottingham against Bedford.

Players from the same team include Simon Pitfield (England & Loughborough Uni), Joe Raitt (London Welsh & Welsh Exiles) Charlie Beech (England & Saints).

Any news of any of the other payers from that team?

Firstly .. i aint available for selection!!! well not for playing anyway, but if any local females are looking for a NSA deep meaningful relationship lasting until morning .. then im your man !!! Seriously.. nice to see the old club still doing well, I live in the old enemies camp now in Olney, Bucks, the older ones amongst you will of course remember them as always being our first game of the season.  At one point i was employing 7 players from there, 2 ex Saints men. I played a few games for the Vets after my "obvious talent" was spotted during training !! Unfortunately I underwent some minor surgery of the conk, carried out by a fellow Vet who was an ENT Surgeon, who went on to say that he didnt want to see me on a Rugby Pitch again !!!  ...some might say he wasnt the only one who had that thought !! Went on to sponsor the 1st XV, the Colts and the Ladies XV's for a few seasons.

Since then, 2002 I have been a Platinum member up at Northampton Saints, and since then coincidently they have gone from bad to worse !! It is a great thrill watching Saints winning with Wally Thompson on one side of you and Ben Cohen on the other !! A lot of the non playing squad watch the game from our balcony so you end up getting to know them quite well. Enough name dropping, on the Biggy front recently returned from NZ Lions Tour which we make an all Biggy affair with myself, Jim Gill, Chris Irons, Nosh Newman, and Dodger Smith all in attendance, and would you beleive it we even bumped into Steve Jennings in a bar in Rotorua !! Previous to that we did the same in 2001 in Oz meeting up in Melbourne for a memorable night of singing all the Biggy favourites with the likes of Homsey (great Haka lad!!), Shove, and Simon "no socks" Small, we !
always raise a glass and drink a toast to our old mate Steve "Sam" S

I have just spent an hour or so exploring your Website. As an ex-member from 1957-59 I do recognise many names and I miss the old wooden club-house which taught me so much about life! Anybody remember how I won a bet of thirteen pints and how they insisted I drank the lot.

I am living in Cardiff and have been looking after my 97 year old mother 24/7. My brother, Roger, who also played for the club is retired and is living in West Wittering . He is an enthusiastic sailor and has four or five holidays a year. It is great to see the club doing so well and I send my good wishes particularly to John Jordan as the only one who may remember.

Yours sincerely, David Bird

Not a new player I'm afraid. (a bit past it at 70!!) I don't know if anyone will remember me, but I was club captain in 1969 and unfortunately ended my playing career that season with a serious neck injury. After many years living in various parts of the country, I have returned to my home town of Hertford . Over the years I've kept in touch with Chris Winchurch and would be delighted to have news of my playing companions all those years ago.
Good luck to the Club. I will try to get to see you play, but most Saturdays I watch Hertford in Nat 3 South.
