Experiments in America

Objectives

  • To try a new erection experiment that utilised the known contours of the stone holes at Stonehenge to erect the stone.
  • To help Rob Roy and his team with a lintel placing experiment.

Explanation

I had been invited to a megalithic conference held at Plattsburgh State University, organized by Rob Roy, to give a talk on “stone rowing” and other experiments I had been involved with and while there to take part in an experiment conducted by Rob and his team. I would also be able to conduct an experiment of my own at the same workshop.

Outcome

Both experiments were successfully completed and during my particular experiment I was able to satisfy myself that the known profiles of the stone holes were probably instrumental in the erecting of the uprights at Stonehenge. The secret once again in successfully completing this experiment was the provision of separate working platforms for the lever operators.
