About the Author

Gordon was born in 1945 and left school in 1960 to start work as an apprentice boat-builder. He converted to Carpenter/Joiner in about 1963 and later worked on large construction sites in various parts of the country, where he learned many of the techniques he was later to use in his quest to understand how the ancient people were able to achieve what they did during pre-history.

An avid reader he was puzzled for many years by the mysterious megaliths from pre-history found in many parts of the world.

As a builder and construction worker he was particularly intrigued with how the original builders had been able to transport and erect such massive stones using only stone-age technology.

In the early spring of 1999 he began to develop a new and unique theory to solve this mystery. To test this new theory he embarked on a series of practical experiments using replica megaliths of increasing size and mass.

Over the next 10 years his experiments were recorded and broadcast by BBC News 24, Channel 5 and The National Geographic Channel. He has also spoken about his theories on Radio 5, BBC World Service, BBC Radio Derby, BBC Radio Swindon, BBC Radio Wilshire and Saga Radio. His work was also featured in an article for The Guardian.

In 2007 he was invited to speak at a megalithic conference held at Plattsburg State University USA and while there was involved in further megalith experiments.

Building Stonehenge is his first book and was written primarily to bring his ideas to a wider audience in the hope that constructive debate about these theories might lead to more large-scale experiments.
