THE FLOW METER
The turbine flowmeter consists  of a multi-bladed rotor situated in the centre of a pipe through which the liquid flows.

The angular velocity of the rotor is proportional to the flow rate of the liquid.

The rotor blades are ferro-magnetic and induce an A C signal in a coil surrounding a magnet.

The frequency and amplitude of this signal are proportional to the flow rate of the liquid.

The AC signal could be  converted into pulses which can be counted and displayed by a digital system.
