Role which involved working on South Lanarkshire Councils WAN Project in Partnership with Research Machines. The project aim was to upgrade the existing National Grid for Learning network with installations of new 1605, 1721, 3745 Cisco routers at spoke and hub sites consisting of High/Primary Schools, Libraries and Universal Connections. Daily tasks involved ordering kit, attending 2 scheduled sites, configuring/mounting the router, testing BT/Telewest lines, cabling, resolving any faults, software installation, data backup, network documentation, dealing with hardware/software issues on site and carrying out acceptance tests with site contact to ensure all required methods of passing through the network are working. |

Temporary contract to improve processes and provide support to engineers in the European Technical Support team. Lab based work which involved replicating client printer problems from throughout Europe through setting up servers, clients and printers in a lab with 20 test machines. Working within Microsoft, Novell, Macintosh, Unix and Linux environments I installed and configured systems in various European languages to match the client’s setup. I was also involved in the costing of new equipment for the lab, hardware installation, testing equipment, licensing, call logging, documentation of log book and new deployment of software and operating systems through Norton Ghost Corporate. |

This involved working within a team of 5 to set-up 15 council run sites on a wireless local area network (WLAN) to be remotely administered. I was responsible for 3 of the sites, building systems/firewalls, repairing hardware, setting up servers, testing equipment, licensing, call logging, software support, documentation of log books and providing technical support to staff. I found this a challenge as there were times when I had to resolve problems on my own. Daily tasks involved troubleshooting Windows 98/2K/XP operating systems and 2K servers, Printer Issues, Sophos Virus Updates, Veritas Back up implementation and monitoring user’s internet access. |

Working within a team we had to achieve deadlines for corporate sites going live. |
