We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. We regard Holy Communion as a sacrament that should be available to all those who love the Lord Jesus Christ and, for this reason, we use gluten free bread and offer a non-alcoholic alternative as well as "normal" wine at communion.
Several times a year services are led by our Junior Church and Youth Group or by our World Church Committee. There are usually between about 140 and 180 people at morning worship and fellowship continues after the service when everyone is invited to the small hall for coffee. There is also a small Traidcraft Stall selling fairly traded products at coffee time once a month.
We do not have regular Sunday evening services, but sometimes "discussion services" are arranged on Sunday evenings. At these, we often have a visiting speaker and the service is followed by coffee and discussion. On the evening of Palm Sunday our drama group, the Goldsmith Players, present Passiontide dramas which have become an important part of our church calendar.
Large print hymn books are available and, for the hard of hearing, there is a 'loop' system covering the whole of the church, including the balcony.
We have an "Orchestra Sunday", once a year, when a thirty to forty strong orchestra gathered from members and friends comes together to accompany the hymns and provide the music for the service.
Our children share with us the first part of the morning service, which includes their own special address and hymn. They then leave to enjoy their own activities in the Junior Church and Youth Group. For the under threes, a crêche is provided. Parents may leave children before the service or take them to join the crêche when the older children leave.
On the second Sunday of each month we have a service of prayer and meditation. These services are suitable for Christians of all denominations and are part of our church's response and contribution to the ecumenical partnership of the city centre churches in Nottingham.
The services of prayer and meditation, which begin at 6 pm, last about an hour and refreshments are available before the services from 5 pm. The timing was chosen to be suitable for people working in the city centre and who might appreciate a time of quiet reflection and worhip after work and for students and others to worship before going out in the evening. As well as providing opportunities for private prayer and silent reflection, Taizé music is used to create a prayerful atmosphere.
In addition to Sunday worship, we hold two series of House Groups a year, one during Lent and one in the autumn. These are prepared by our Christian Education Committee which also plans special series of evening services involving speakers from outside the church. Our World Church Committee keeps us informed about world church issues, leading services twice a year and the Prayer Circle is also an important part of our fellowship.
We genuinely wish to make everyone feel welcome to our church. We are aware that many people have particular needs and aim to respond by making provision so that they may access our services appropriately. Our church has:
