Gareth F. Rees

Gareth Rees is based in the Cardiff area of
Wales and has been teaching brass musical instruments to pupils of all
ages for over 2 decades. He has taught the trumpet, cornet and
flügel horn from beginner to diploma standard, and the horn,
trombone, euphonium and tuba from beginner to grade 8 standard.
Gareth started to play the flügel horn in the brass bands of Wales and became the principal flügel horn player with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain before progressing to work as a professional trumpeter. He has played in all fields of music including jazz, pop and musical theatre. Gareth is currently working as a freelance musician with a number of classical orchestras including The Welsh Sinfonia and The Renaissance Orchestra.
Gareth has held a number of teaching positions
including from September 1992 to August 2003 the 
Brass Instrumental
Tutor at Christ College, Brecon and from June 1994 to August 2006 the
Brass Instrumental Tutor at Malvern Girls' College. He is currently
employed as the Brass Instrumental Tutor at Malvern St James (since
September 2006) and Beaudesert Park School, Minchinhampton (since
September 2002). Gareth is also a Specialist Tutor for the trumpet and
cornet at the Junior and Access Studies Department of the Royal Welsh
College of Music & Drama, Cardiff (since 1996). He also has over 40
private pupils. Gareth is a full member of the Incorporated Society of
Musicians.
Many of his pupils have won awards both locally and
nationally including the Richard Fice Award, The 
Texaco Young
Musician of Wales and winner of the Brass Final of the BBC Young
Musician of the Year. Over the last 20 years his pupils have been
members of The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, The National
Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, The National Children's Orchestra of
Great Britain, The National Children's Wind Sinfonia of Great Britain,
The National Youth Orchestra of Wales, The National Youth Brass Band of
Wales and The National Youth Symphonic Brass Ensemble of Wales as well
as a number of local ensembles.
