Any one know of what this patch was used for?

In the West Midlands, even the horses get their own patches! This one is sewn onto the horses blankets.

There is a slight variation of the top left Police and Special Constabulary patch; the thread used is silver instead of white. In total there are 5 slight variations to the Police patch. The 2 small oval patches are commendation patches; they are worn on the sleeves of uniform jackets of Officers receiving commendations. There is a commendation patch comprising silver thread on a black background.

Clive Buckley of the West Midlands Police informs me that the bottom patch is now used on the new stab-proof vests worn by Officers. There are 2 variations-  a personal issue to regular Officers, which includes the individual's name, and an issue without the space at the bottom, used for 'pool' vests worn by CID & Special Constabulary Officers.

Thanks to Clive for that information. I look forward to adding genuine examples on these pages!
