Long Eaton Silver Prize Training
Band
The Long Eaton Silver Prize Training Band is lead by the ever effervescent Sharon Stansfield (Musical Director, LESPB), Over the last couple of years , under Sharon’s tuition and leadership, the training band has grown from half a dozen players to over twenty at the last count – and increasing weekly. The players’ ages range from age 5 to the adults (age doesn’t matter when you’re a grown up). Most of the children who attend have only begun to play an instrument and learn to read music over the last couple of years. Several of the more advanced members also practice and play at contests with the senior band.
There aren’t as many adults as children in the training band, however, of those that regularly attend two have picked up instruments after a long break and just wish to enjoy the pleasure of playing without the pressures of the type of music the senior band plays. Others have taken up brass instruments for the first time in their lives and just want to learn to play from scratch. Happily for us some of the senior band members attend training band and certainly add to the sound, dynamics, tunefulness, and fun. We’re also grateful to the parents who attend giving support, and especially to those who can read music and use pointers to guide the members through the music.
