Band Room News

Amy

We wish Amy all the best during her illness and hope for a full recovery in time.

Club Doors

The band has paid for new doors for the club, replacing the old doors which were draughty and beyond repair.

Many thanks to Derek Price for sourcing the doors so cheaply. Derek will also be varnishing them in the next few days.

Club Children’s Christmas Party

The club is a children’s Christmas party on Sunday December 20th. All young band members are welcome. FREE tickets are available from behind the bar.

The club also gratefully acknowledges the sponsorship of this party by the Co-operative Group Community Fund as part of the club’s 80th birthday celebrations.

Solos, Duets & Quartets Competition

Our fifth annual solos, duets and quartets competition for the training and senior band is on Sunday November 15th.

Entry forms are available in the band room: if you intend entering, please fill in the forms so we can plan the day’s timings. We have had very few entries so far.

There will be a free buffet during the day.

Club Christmas Draw

Tickets for the club’s Christmas Draw are now on sale. All monies taken are returned as prizes. To buy tickets, please see the club secretary (i.e. the editor).

The prize draw is on Thursday 17th December: the training band will be giving a short concert at c. 9 pm.

Melissa

All members of the band are invited to Melissa’s 18th birthday party on 20th November from 7:30 p.m., when she will be celebrating by drinking her first (and second and third and fourth and ...) pint in the club.

The Club

Please continue to support the club, by having a drink before or after rehearsal. These are difficult times for all pubs and club and our club is no exception.

Remember also that the club’s function room is available free to members during the day on Saturdays and Sundays and on Friday evenings – and you don’t have to clean up afterwards as you would if you held your party at home!

Armistice Parade Buffet

There will be a buffet for the band in the club after the parade on Sunday.

Craft Materials

The club would appreciate the donation of any spare craft materials, for use in our children’s events. Please leave in the band room or behind the bar.

Notes from the Musical Director

After a few quiet weeks we are now back in the busy season with Christmas looming. The Remembrance concerts by the training and senior bands in Long Eaton and Chesterfield have all been highly appreciated by the audiences. Well done in particular to Lewis for his performance of “Because” last night.

Thank you to all who managed to make their way through the traffic accidents and motorway congestion to Chesterfield, particularly those who came direct from work. Roy, Andy and Kim even caught the train to make sure that they would be there. Thank you also to Andy and Janice for depping, and well done to Kim on her debut on solo horn.

See full size imageWe have spent a few weeks now having our first look at Labour & Love. I think all of you who will be playing at NEMBBA and the area (sadly the rules mean I can’t play everyone) agree it is a wonderful piece of music. We will be concentating on our Christmas programme for the rest of the year, but I am confident that now you know what is required, you will all be note perfect in the new year so we can spend 2½ months perfecting our musical interpretation in time for the contests!

Five Years Ago

Emma Ramplin

As you all known, Emma is recovering from a jaw operation. We wish her well and a speedy recovery.

Editor’s note: We now reminice with nostalgia about those halycon days of peace. Not that Emmaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhh stayed quiet for long!
