I started
the the work as a "rolling restoration" whilst still being able
to use the bike during summer months. and thus concentrated on the parts
that could be left on the bike.
Firstly
the the engine covers were quite dull and tarnished more through lack of
polishing than neglect.
I bought
a box of 12 Solvol Autosol tubes at a good price of e-bay at about 1/3 of the price you
would pay for individual tubes. These parts took probably one complete
tube to get them into this condition.
With a
few evenings work, these
came up very well using using a lot of elbow
grease & cups of tea. (for drinking)
when
riding the bike i was visibly put off by view of the top yokes with was
missing paint and & surface rust on the bottom yokes, so this was
the next part of the bike to seek attention. so off came the wheel,
mudguard, forks, clocks etc. Now this may seam a major strip down but
in reality only took on evening.

Whilst
the the front end was in its stripped down state I took the opportunity
replace the head bearing, repaint the brake disks, wheel
and to polish up the fork legs & front wheel.
It was at
this point the Winter was setting in as a "fine weather biker" it
was getting a bit too cold out there so this was a good time to take it off
the road and strip it right down.
