Ben Vorlich Information

Ben Vorlich unlike the other Inveruglas hills is climbed on its own it makes a brilliant winter climb, well in my opinion anyway.  This time you go up the east side of Loch Sloy with amazing views again of the dam and of the Ben Vane, Ime and Narnain.  I think that what made this hill so good was there was no paths, you make your own.  The summit of the hill gives you brilliant views across to the Crianlarich hills and down Loch Lomond.  

Ben Vorlich Route

The route starts off the same as that for Vane, Ime and Narnain except where you turn left to go up the land rover track go straight on as you will quickly realise Ben Vorlich is on your right and there is not much of a path.  Its just a bit of picking the way that looks best.  There is a rocky area on the hill which I went past this seemed like a good way to go and offered no real difficulties.  I stupidly forgot my ice axe which I really needed on this day but ah well it was fun climbing up it anyway taking one step forward half a step back.  The hill starts off steep and as hard work but becomes much more relaxed as you get to about 2000ft and makes a very enjoyable climb.  Not much really to say about this hill since its a go where you want to go scenario.  The summit of the hill is great but I don't know if its always or if it was just that day but we were hit by the elements so hard in every direction.  I have never been so cold in my life.  I suppose this could be expected for 1st of January though.  From the top admire the views of the Crianlarich hills and the rest of the Arrochar Alps before its time to come back down.

When I climbed this hill the weather was wintry to say the least although it wasn't actually snowing temperatures were well below 0 and winds were high.  The hill was covered in snow and stupid me forgot the axe.  visibility was brilliant thus allowing me to take a couple of good photos.
