Beinn Bhuidhe - Arrochar Alps - Aug 2004About Beinn BhuidheBeinn Bhuidhe should in my opinion be in a region of its own it sits on its on surrounded by non Munro hills away from everything. The 3 mile hike to and from the hill emphasizes how out the way it is. The hill itself is a killer I have never been so tired climbing a hill than I was on this hill. The route takes you up onto Beinn Bhuidhe's summit ridge where there are three peaks the middle one being the highest and thus the true summit. The views are fantastic so many ranges can be seen. To the north the whole of the Cruachan hills can be seen towering up from Loch Awe and the Tyndrum hills just to the right. To the east the Crianlarich Hills can be seen clearly with Ben More and Stob Binnein sticking up above the rest. Beinn Bhuidhe is well hidden, the hill only being seen properly at the end of your three mile hike. The road leading to the hill is a private road, no cars allowed hence the hike but you can cycle it and there are railings near the base of the hill to chain up your bike. Overall should be a good day out after you get past the initial climb with fantastic views from the summit. Beinn Bhuidhe RouteThe walk for Beinn Bhuidhe starts at the head of Loch Fyne where you cross over a bridge take the first right and you will see a walkers car park. From here the three mile hike starts. Follow the road up towards the power station the road then takes you through the quarry keep following this road right up until you get to the house. This is where the hill starts. follow the road a small bit further until you go through the gate and immediately on your left a path begins to climb up the hill following this path will take you up a small gully following the river. This part is a slog and not pleasant to walk in the path is a complete marsh even in the summer. Following the pat for about half an hour will take you out of the gully and into a larger space. The summit is still hidden at this point. Another small climb for about ten minutes you will reach a large plateau below the summit. if you follow the path it will take you to the right and up onto the summit ridge. If you do not want to do this and make the route shorter then you can climb up the grassy steep slopes to the summit some scrambling is required here. After about ten minutes climbing you will join up with the path again. The summit is fantastic with great views in all directions. To go back follow the route you came in on. Overall Beinn Bhuidhe should give a great day out if you cycle the 3 mile road to get to the hill in the first place. Beinn Bhuidhe Photos/Images
