"This is the last will and testament of me, John Hackett, of Derby, Smallware Manufacturer. My household goods and furniture in my place of business and abode at Derby I give to my son Thomas Hackett

The household goods and furniture in the house and premises occupied by me at Chesterfield I give to my housekeeper Jemima Nicklinson. I bequeath unto Jemima Nicklinson my four shares in the London and Birmingham Railway Hotel Company also my twenty shares in the Liverpool Royal Insurance Company also a legacy of three hundred pounds duty free.

I devise unto said son Thomas Hackett his heirs and assigns my Dwelling house, Warehouses and all other my real estate situated in Derby aforesaid (subject to the existing mortgage on part of such estates) I also give unto my said son the machinery, steam engines, stock-in-trade, money, securities for money, book debts and other effects in and about my trade buildings at Tansley and at Derby subject nevertheless to the payment by him off all the debts owing by me on account of the business carried on at the same two places. I give unto my son Thomas and my daughter to be equally divided between them all my stock-in-trade, moneys, securities, household goods and furniture, shop fixtures and effects in and about my hosiery and haberdashery business carried on by me at Liverpool (partnership with my said son Thomas) subject nevertheless to the payment by these equally of all debts which ,may be owing by me on account of the same

I devise unto my said daughter Elizabeth Kent her heirs and assigns all my Freehold estate and hereditaments situate in Clarence Street Leicester subject to the Mortgage thereon of eight hundred pounds. I bequeath unto her the Machinery, steam engines, fixtures and other effects belonging to me in and about the said Clarence Street premises.

I devise unto my said daughter Elizabeth Kent for her life all my houses, trade buildings and other real estate at and within the Parish or free Chapelry of Brampton near Chesterfield in the County of Derbyshire, charged with any mortgage debts which may be thereon and subject to such life interest I devise all such last mentioned hereditaments unto all and every the children of my said daughter now or hereafter born living too attain the age of twenty one their heirs and assigns in equal shares.

Subject to such Mortgage debts aforesaid I give unto my said daughter my steam engines, large clock, large bell, machinery, stock-in-trade, moneys, securities, books, debts and other effects in and about or connected with my business carried on at Brampton aforesaid in partnership with John Kent and Henry Kent alone subject however to the payment of any debts which may be owing by me on account of my Brampton engagements.

I give unto my said daughter all my old and second hand machery (sic) and stock of cotton and linen on and about my Brampton premises. I give unto my daughter my one hundred shares in the Unity Fire Insurance Association. I give unto my daughter my two patents numbered 1541 and 1596. I give to my son Thomas and my daughter Elizabeth for their equal benefit my two patents numbered 1749 and 1797.

The residue of my real and personal estates (if any) I give and devise unto and equally between my said two children
