This web site brings together all the facts and records that I have so far found about the Hackett family who owned mills and factories in Derbyshire and Leicestershire. The parish records, census and directory entries, newspaper accounts etc are, of course, accurate and correct. However there is a small amount of reasonable interpretetation in order to put them into context. A web site is a better than a book for this purpose as it can be changed easily. Not many people aside from family will be interested in it anyway!
There are many questions that are still unanswered, for example was Thomas Hackett the wealthy owner of the draper's shop in Derby any relation? Or the John Hackett who died in 1806 and whose grave is at Matlock Church? If you have any further information which would contribute to this project please email me at Frank
