Yorkshire Engine Co 0-6-0DE built
1962, no 2868 "Ludstone"
![]() Above: Yorkshire 0-6-0DE "Ludstone" at Caverswall Road on 29 July 2000 The last of three twin engined, double ended Janus type locos built by the Yorkshire Engine Co which worked at Shelton, and replaced some of the six-coupled steam power at the works. "Janus" (YE2772) arrived at Shelton in 1960, "Atlas" (YE2787) in 1961 and "Ludstone" in 1962. "Ludstone" was named after Ludstone Hall, Claverley (between Bridgnorth and Wolverhampton) which was the home of the Managing Director of the company, Mr M H Rollason. Together the trio outlived many other diesel locomotives that arrived either new or secondhand at the works, and "Ludstone" became the last to be operational. In the company of three more modern locos brought in from BSC Teeside Works, "Ludstone" was present for the final traffic at Shelton and with the closure of the rolling mill was donated to Foxfield, enabling the collection of former Shelton motive power to be more complete. Spanning "Dubsy", "Hawarden", "Hercules" and "Ludstone", a fair representation of over 60 locomotives used at Shelton over 150 years can be seen at Foxfield today Below: Yorkshire 0-6-0DE "Ludstone" at Shelton in 1999
