A standard product of the Lincoln works of Ruston & Hornsby in 1957,
to their design 88DS, and delivered new to Shanks & Co Ltd of Longpark,
Kilmarnock, Scotland. It was one of many similar locomotives with mechanical
transmission , characterised by deep channel frames and typical Ruston
body styling. Sold on to Thomas Piggot & Horsley Bridge Ltd, it moved
south to Dudley Port in the West Midlands in 1968. While there it worked
alongside a steam locomotive which was part of the Foxfield collection
for several years, "J T Daly",
which is now in the Channel Islands. During 1982 the locomotive was made
redundant and was offered to a group of Foxfield
members. Delivered by road to the railway in January 1983, it has been
used on permanent way trains, with a full engine overhaul carried out a
few years after arrival. It has become known as "Gas Oil" and currently
carries a dark green livery.
