Central Electricity Generating Board flat wagons, ex tanks nos 18411, 48521 and 48539

Above: CEGB flat wagon carrying LMS brakevan body 197695 after delivery in summer 1995

These flat wagons originated as modern vacuum braked tank wagons, identical to Esso tank wagon 48527, built in 1960. Together all four were bought from the CEGB at Meaford Power station, where they had been used for boiler fuel oil storage, and the tanks from three were stripped off and sold to a local company as static oil stores. This left three very useful vacuum braked flat wagons which were delivered to Foxfield by road on 29 March 1991. They have been used for carrying track materials and one currently carries the restored body of NSR 4 wheel carriage number 61 inside the museum building at Caverswall Road station, pending conversion of an MR van underframe for it.
