Thomas Hill 4wDH (formerly Sentinel
4wVBT built 1949) rebuilt 1960, number 103C "BRC"/"Megan"

Hill 4wDH 103C in store at Caverswall Road in August 2004 in the company
of 111C
It
is difficult to tell at a glance that this diesel started life as a steam
locomotive, built by Sentinel of Shrewsbury in 1949. A typical steam Sentinel
is represented at Foxfied by slightly later example number
9535 which makes an interesting contrast. This example was one of several
converted by Thomas Hill Ltd of Kilnhurst, Rotherham in 1960, and given
their works number 103C. The frames, wheels and buffer beams of the Sentinel
steam locomotive were retained, and a new cab, superstructure and a Rolls
Royce 180hp diesel engine fitted. The resulting locomotive was then supplied
to the British Reinforced Concrete Engineering Co Ltd of Stafford. Following
the end of rail traffic at the concrete works "BRC" was bought privately
for preservation and moved to Foxfield on 24 November 1984, where it is
now known as "Megan" and may be seen in Caverswall Road yard.
A very similar locomotive, Thomas Hill
number 111C, also arrived at Foxfield in 2002.
