BR Mark 1 bogie second class gangwayed compartment brake (BSK) carriage, number 34672

The brake version of the standard British Railways Mark 1 compartment carriage, this vehicle is equipped with a large luggage area and guards brake compartment. It has only four passenger compartments seating 32 passengers accessed by a side corridor, and a single toilet compartment. The bogies on W34672 are the original B1 type with leaf springs as the primary suspension.

W34672 was built at BR Wolverton Works to diagram 181 in 1955, on lot 30156. It was previously at Crewe Heritage Centre where it had been used as staff accommodation, hence various non standard features were evident on arrival at Foxfield, including a small TV arial. W34672 arrived at Foxfield in 2006 for conversion of the luggage area into a special compartment for physically disabled passengers, and for this purpose two of the luggage doors have been replaced by a large window unit. W34672 has been undergoing intensive and thorough restoration since its arrival and should be completed by the end of 2007.
