Report on the new LRC By Hannah Wilkinson and Sophie Rogerson (year 8) The new LRC is much bigger than the old one - in fact it has one third more space. It now seats over 80 pupils and has a study/careers area in one corner. There are many new facilities including a small staff kitchen and toilet. There is new technology - sensors by the door can detect if a book is being taken out without it being properly issued and there are plans for a Smart board. The décor is creamy yellow on the walls with blue blinds, a dark blue carpet and easy chairs - the colour scheme matches the college colours. There is a proper curved issue desk made from light beech wood with study chairs to match. Before you come into the LRC there is a large area for bags and an unusual feature is the two round windows on either side of the building. Its a very welcoming room and a much better LRC than the last one! There are lots of new books but plenty of our old favourites as well including Animal Ark, Redwall, Allys World and Horrible Histories.

This is what Mr Bourke has to say about it: We started thinking about a new LRC in 2000 so it has taken four years to get there. We see the facility as a multi-purpose learning resource area offering Internet access, a wide range of reading materials and the professional experitise of the staff. The only disadvantage I can foresee is meeting demand - we hope we can accommodate everyone who wishes to make use of the facility | |||||||||||||||||||||||
