SHOW WEEK After many weeks of hard work, show week is finally here. On Saturday morning, many of the cast and crew turned up to unload and erect the scenery at the Albert Halls. Many thanks to the parents who turned up to help. Sunday saw Band Call and Technical rehearsal with the entire cast hearing the fabulous orchestra for the first time. Most stunned by the sound, were the children, who's faces erupted in smiles on hearing the first few bars of 'Food Glorious Food' Dress Rehearsal on Monday went very well with only a few minor hiccups so everyone is now looking forward to a great opening night on Tuesday. |

Happy New Year Firstly, apologies for the lack of news and general updates to the website. There has been a technical problem with our Domain name 'boltonprem.co.uk' which has prevented the site being accessed properly. However the problem has now been resolved and we should be able to update the site as before. As you know, we had a turbulent 2002 with the show being cancelled at the last minute. This however, has not prevented the society from planning a fabulous 2003. We are producing 2 shows this year, the first 'The Rhythm of Life' in March and our main production in September. We have a super production lined up this year, details of which will be announced shortly and at the AGM in March. The Rhythm of Life Thanks to Natalie Kirkbright, there is going to be a smaller production entitled 'The Rhythm of Life' shown at Chorley Old Rd Methodist Community Centre on the 14th and 15th March at 7.30pm. The review will feature songs from many well loved shows including 'Les Mis, Chicago, Phantom, South Pacific, Brigadoon and lots more. Natalie and several other society members have put a tremendous amount of work into this production. Please do your best to attend, publicise and sell tickets for this super show. Tickets are priced at £5.00 and can be obtained by contacting Lynda on 01204 371752. |
Fund Raising
Thanks again to Marje and Craig for donating the use of their home and garden for the fantastic 'Bonfire' evening. We raised £520 for the Society. Thanks to everyone who contributed food, raffle prizes and entertainment. AGM This year's Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 3rd March, 7.45pm at the Jubilee Centre. There will be the usual election of officers and an announcement will be made about the production for 2003. Letters are being sent out to all members of the society over the next couple of weeks. The show dates for this year are 20th Sept - 28th Sept. We will require lots of help and support in all areas this year. If you would like to volunteer to help with costumes, front of house, props, backstage work, making cups of tea at rehearsals, publicity, fundraising etc, speak to one of the society officials who will be pleased to have you on board.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, the committee and production team for this years' production of 'Pop goes the 70's', have found it necessary to cancel the production at the last minute. This will be a major disappointment to the cast and crew who have worked tirelessly over the past few months on what was to be a fabulous show. We still hope to be able to put the show on in the future and will bring you any news of this and other fundraising events for the society as soon as we are able. Anyone who has already purchased tickets for 'Pop goes the 70's' will be entitled to a full refund.

December 2001 Merry Christmas to all our members and to the many people who have supported us this year. Apologies for the lack of Guys & Dolls photographs. Unfortunately this year I haven't been able to track them down. They were whisked away before I had chance to scan them. If anyone has any, contributions will be very welcome. Here are a few piccies taken at the ACT Charity concert in November.

Something special
|
|
| To call this
show an amateur production would be doing it a disservice.
This was right up there with any of the professional big stage shows that I have seen. Right from the moment the band hit its opening note the audience realised it might be in for something special -- and we were not disappointed. The scenery, the lighting, the massive array of colourful costume all provided the perfect props. The actors and musicians then stepped in to do them justice. It was good to see there was a full house at the Albert Halls, and I only hope that this continues for the run so that as many people as possible get to witness just how much talent the town has to offer. Jason Crompton is terrific in the role of Sky Masterson, as is Adrienne Wormald as the pious Sarah Brown. |
The
chorus was strong and the dancing of the "Hot Box Girls"
was outstanding. There was not a step out of place in the excellent
choreography put together by Marje Brayshaw.
Andrew Platt is
also worth a mention for his wonderful portrayal of Nicely-Nicely
Johnson -- his performance of "Sit Down, You're Rocking the
Boat" almost brought the house down. The powerful scenery
was the perfect backdrop, and the choice and design of costume
was equally impeccable. The story is fun, the music excellent and
the cast superb -- little wonder the audience of more than 500
gave the show such rapturous applause. Beverly Greenberg

SHOW WEEK Show week is now upon us. Costumes
have been given out and with a little tweaking should look fabulous.
(Who said we couldn't fit our bottoms into those tiny Havana outfits) Thanks to everyone who has offered
help for the week of the show. We are however still short
of 'front of house' staff for Tues evening. Anyone who might
be able to help should contact one of the society
officials as soon as possible. |
A team will be in the Market Place in Bolton on Saturday to promote the show and we have had several mentions on local radio and in the local press. Anyone still requiring tickets should book as soon as possible. Due to the 2 for 1 offer, tickets have almost sold out for Tuesday evening. |

Ruby Wedding Congratulations Congratulations to Colin and Shirley Dean who celebrate their Ruby Wedding anniversary on Sunday 7th October. When they were married in 1961, Colin was 22 and Shirley was 18. Colin used to sing in a country and western band which toured clubs in Manchester. It was on one such gig that he met Shirley. 40 years on, they now have 3 daughters and a granddaughter. Colin, Shirley and the family have been involved with Bolton Premier for a number of years. In addition to performing in the shows, Colin is now our Treasurer, Vanessa is secretary and Elisa is our webmaster. Georgina works back stage during the week of the shows and Shirley is a member of the production team. She also provides many lifesaving cups of tea during rehearsals.

We wish Colin and Shirley all the very best and hope they manage to find time to celebrate during the week of the show. |

There was an initial get-together at the Jubilee Centre to introduce this year's production "Guys and Dolls" and to give everyone a chance to hear some of the music and to hand out audition pieces. Auditions will be held at the Baptist Church (off Chorley New Rd, Bolton) on Sunday 29th April at 1.00pm. This year, auditions will be held in the form of a workshop and will continue until approximately 6.00pm. Producer Glen and Musical Director Steven would expect everyone who wishes to take part in the show to audition even if they wish to take a small role. Anyone who would like to audition, but couldn't make it to the meeting can contact Debbie (secretary) on 01204 659830for further audition details. We have also decided to meet again next Monday at the Jubilee Centre at 7.45pm for a general get together and to iron out any worries anyone might have regarding the auditions. |
The main parts with audition songs are as follows: Sarah Brown Miss Adelaide Nicely Company Crapshooters |
Monday 22nd January 2001 First Meeting of Production Team for Guys and Dolls. This was a chance for the production team to decide on dates for the A.G.M and to meet Glen Mortimer who will be producing this year's show. The show dates are expected to be, Tues 9th-Sat 13th Oct (inc Sat matinee). It was clear that in order for the production to go ahead, the society needed to put extra effort into fundraising this year and to make more effort to attract sponsorship. If anyone can help by sponsoring the society, please contact our secretary Debbie for details. Any company who sponsor Bolton Premier will automatically be included on a sponsorship page on the website and in programs and publicity documents for the show. The date for the Annual General Meeting is Monday 19th February at the Jubilee Centre. (Letters will be sent out to all members shortly) |
News Items: Double Celebration Congratulations to Carole Edwards who was voted the Bolton Evening News "Bride of the Year 2001". Carole is set to marry George Penny later this year and was hoping for a quiet low key wedding. The announcement in the B.E.N surprised a few people who didn't even know there was a wedding planned!! It couldn't have happened to a nicer couple. The society wish Carole and George all the very best for their future together. Congratulations also to Steven Sharples and Shelley Dalton who announced their engagement on Christmas Day. The couple have been involved in Bolton Premier for a number of years, Steven as Musical Director and Shelley as assistant choreographer. We wish them every future happiness. |

| Monday 20th November Top of Page
Quiz Night The tension mounts as 27 heads bow to the task ahead. Big breaths are drawn and sweat breaks out on foreheads and upper lips as pens touch paper. Is this an “A” level exam? No it’s the Prem’s Quiz Night. Some of the answers were great. Could “3 C…..in the F-------“ really be “3 Cows in the field”? Is “a.m.” really “Before Jesus”? Is Glenda Jackson a man? And why did Elisa know all the theme tunes to the TV Makeover programs? (Changing Rooms, Ground Force, House Doctors etc) (How sad !!).

Anyway a great night was had by all. Peals of raucous laughter could be heard from all the tables and I thought I might have to go into midwife mode for Laura, who for some reason I couldn’t begin to explain seems to have acquired the nickname of “Windy Miller” or was that the name of the little chap who works the windmill in Camberwick Green?A big thank you to our question master and quiz organiser Vanessa for a great night and to all who contributed goodies to the buffet. The objective of the event was not to make money but to get together and have fun and we certainly succeeded. However I will be squirreling away another £32 into our needy coffers. Thanks for the support of all who attended. Colin Dean Treasurer.
