Who we are

Southgate Cycling Club has the enviable distinction of being one of the first cycling clubs created in the UK, established in 1882.

The club is based in Enfield, North London and participates and organises a variety of cycling events in and around the local surrounding areas of Enfield, Hertfordshire and Essex.

Aims

The club aims to bring enjoyment to cycling and promotes all cycling related activities.

Experience

All you need to join the Southgate Cycling Club is enthusiasm, lots of energy and a road worthy bike - road, mountain or hybrid will do.

Whether you are a novice or an avid cyclist, man or woman, everyone will be more than welcome to join us on our cycling rides and activities.

We pride ourselves at cycling at the pace of slowest rider - we never leave a cyclist behind.

Club Runs

Every sunday we go cycling along the beautiful and picturesque country lanes of Hertfordshire and Essex.

The info page will tell you what to expect from a typical Sunday Club Run; as well as the location of the starting point for the ride.

Occasionally the Sunday Club Run is replaced by a special event in which the whole club participates, such as an Audax, Time Trial or a Weekend Ride.

During the summer we hold mid-week evening rides.

Touring

Other than our regular Sunday Club Runs, we also plan and organise various touring events:

• Weekend cycling trips in the UK and abroad - France, Suffolk, Sussex.

• Car Assisted Rides - so we can venture further afield into the neighbouring counties of Bedford, Cambridgeshire and Berkshire.

Audax

Many of our members participate in events organised by many of the other cycling clubs and organisations, for example:

Racing:
Sportives and Time Trials

We have a strong racing tradition and many of our members take part in national time trials and sportives; these are usually held in the summer, throughout the week.

Marshalling

As part of our duty as a CTT affilated Cycling Club we organise marshaling at our own Time Trials and also provide marshals for other organisations to which we are affiliated.

Cyclists Touring Club

Club Nights

Club nights are social events that allow non-cycling members and active members to get together to discuss cycling issues and plan the forthcoming cycling activities.
A cup (or two or three) of tea or coffee and some chocolate biscuits are laid on.
Club Nights are held every fortnight on Thursday.

Spectator Events

Southgate Cycling Club organises visits to various cycling events of great importance.

Last year, 2007, the biggest cycling event of them all, was The Prologue - Tour de France - which came to London. The whole Club turned out in force at Hyde Park, central London, to cheer the cyclists on.

Social

Southgate Cycling Club organises many non-cycling social activities, some of which include:
