
This is the earliest picture found of SNBC* taken at the Ice Wells in 1883.
Note the uniforms of the club members.
* SNBC = Southgate Non-Descript Bicycle Club
The Ice Wells were on the north side of Winchmore Hill road, where the swimming pool now stands. It was owned by the Simmonds family and ice came from the damming of Hounsden Gutter which now runs under The Vale. The site had a gymnasium with equipment.

a smith at The Green and a wheelwright and
an ironmongers at Market Place, Chase Side
