The mini triangular tournament is now completed and a win sees us move into sixth place. This was one of those very rare occasions in which we had subs and the opposition only had ten men.Even though we had subs including the return of "the mullet" and "Yankee Ian" we found it hard to make the extra man count. Finally the second half pressure told on Mulladweens tired legs and we found the goals that killed them off.
I'm not sure if it was Matt for ourselves or Mulladween who scored first but the half-time score read 1-1. Moving Steady into midfield, pushing Ricky out to right midfield and bringing Ian on up front gave us a more recognised shape although it was Mulladween who gained an early second half lead. A long range free-kick floated over the flapping frame of 6 foot 3 inches tall Matt and dropped David Seaman like into the net.
After huffing and puffing for a while the equaliser came after a goal mouth scramble with Jim vollying from close range. With Torres now in the assendancy and Mulladween tiring the winner was just a formality. This came from Ian tucking the ball into the left corner. Ian then proceeded to miss whilst clean through and turned his ankle in frustrution leaving us effectively down to 10 men as well.
The killer goal was delivered from young Glen from the best part of 30 yards out. A superb strike marking, maybe, the start of a promising future for the Torres starlet.
Once again we proved our fitness to dominate the second half but we really need to be more commanding at the start of each game.
