Well we didn't have to wait long for revenge and it was very sweet when it came. With the game being played in the fallout of the nearby sewage works the air was anything but sweet. It smelt nearly as bad as walking into a telephone box just after Paul Philips had dropped one.Torres started with a great deal of pressure and it really was 15-20 minutes before Kingston reached our half, such was the dominance. The opener came quickly enough as the ball was passed out wide to Matt Lowe who dispatched the ball into the bottom corner.
The equaliser soon followed as the ball was chased down by Kingstons rather nippy winger to slot home.
The best goal was up next. I would say that, I scored it. Inspired by playing in the shadow of my beloved AFC Wimbledon's ground next door, I picked the ball up 25 yards from goal after good play down our left, took one touch and let fly into the top right corner. The ball was still rising when it hit the net.
Next up, big Chris showed his diving talents a little too late for the Olympics, for which a medal would have been guaranteed. Their linesman gave a freekick although the incident was clearly inside the box. The ref sensibly gave us a penalty from which big Chris blasted low and hard to the keepers right.
After the break Steve decided enough was enough and that it was time for some of his own magic and duly scored a hatrick. After moving to centre forward to replace Matt his pace was simply too much. Adrian deserves a special mention at this point. A moment of sublime brilliance which started with a pirouette followed by a Mohamad Ali Shuffle and a defence splitting pass Beckham dreams of making for England set Steve on his way. The move was so good the sound "Whoo!" echoed around the pitch as though it was the final firework on Bonfire night.
This was a much-improved performance to reverse the previous friendly result. Cosmos were without midfield Murphy (shout the name Murphy and half of Cosmos's players look around) and the nippy young centre forward but still had enough quality to cause problems. A good debut from young Glen/Glyn and with a few more players returning shortly, the promise shown after the first friendly could be returning.
Finally, did I mention that I scored a screamer...
