N.C. Royals 2 - FC Torres 1

We may only have had the bare eleven players but should have still won this comfortably. In truth, Royals deserved their win as they coped much better on the rutted pitch and with the strong cross wind. Their early dominance could have killed this game before half time but for a superb performance by our keeper.

Maybe the short and extremely narrow pitch stopped us using our wide players who should certainly have tested Royals, shall we say, more experienced defence. Some of their players were even giving Malcolm a few years. Our poor start may also have something to do with our players diets'. The Mullet appeared in the changing room before the game with a quarter pound horse burger. I kid you not.

To still go in nil-nil at half time should have given us the platform to use our stronger second half performances. Before long, however, we were two down after Adrian failed to clear a long ball and was then left trailing by a 5'4" veteran of at least 15 years his senior. The second came after a midfield cock-up (I hold my hands but the crap pitch and wind didn't help), which was then knocked out to the right and promptly despatched with some class.

This did kick start us into life a bit and Dans shot led to a penalty after cruelly hitting a Royals hand but taking enough pace from it that gave the referee little choice. Big Chris wasn't going to let little bruv take this one and although the keeper got a touch the power carried the ball through.

This left some twenty minutes of pressure and even when Royals defensive rock went off injured we still failed to truly test the keeper. Most were long range efforts that caused more concern for air traffic control.

October was always going to be a tough month without Christian and Ian's ankle injury doesn't help as goals seem hard to come by. Still were in the Edgar Hemmingway Cup next week drawn against AFC Sydney. And guess what? They're two leagues above us and sitting on top of the pile. Life's never easy in the wonderful world of FC Torres.
