Farawayhills is a non-commercial website, based in the chalk hills of Southern England, UK

Originating in the fiddle tunes and folk songs brought to the Americas by English and Celtic settlers, Country Music grew up in the mountains, foothills and farms which lie inland from the Eastern seaboard of the Southern United States. Absorbing influences from African-American and European cultures, it developed into a powerful tradition which has strongly influenced contemporary popular music and spread outwards into the wider world. Today, its many branches and offshoots include Old Time Mountain Music, Bluegrass, the roots-accoustic traditions of the singer-songwriters of Americana Music, the commercial popular Country of Nashville, which dominates the playlists and videos of mainstream radio and television, the more independent and traditional influences of Alternative Country, and specialized fields like Rockabilly and Western Swing.
