| ARE WE THERE YET? |
|
GETTING THERE Carrie Berry The second issue of 2005 asks the question ARE WE THERE YET? We are keenly aware that goals are always resetting themselves and that we must constantly assess whether we are there yet in terms of satisfying our growing reader base.
I am assured by everyone I ask that the destination isn’t as important as the journey—we hope this issue provides another satisfying reading experience for you as you make your way from front to back. As promised, we present the winning entries from the 2004 Fiction Contest from Rusty Barnes, Richard Madelin and Kathy Fish. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the judges for the contest, Tom Saunders and GSG staff members Bob Arter, Gabriel Orgrease and Jonathan Redhorse.
Additionally, we provide a selection of fine poetry and fiction including what will undoubtedly prove to be the year’s shortest and longest works, by Joseph Young and A. Ray Norsworthy, respectively. Our features include a guest editorial by G.W. “Gyro” Cox and a column by Jonathan Redhorse. Our book review editor, Linda Donovan, has recruited another interesting review from Ed Schubert. Thanks to all.
More thanks are in order for Gator Springs Gazette’s unsung heroes, the copy editors and proofreaders, Frank Saragosa and Denis Taillefer. Their efforts are instrumental in ensuring that we have a quality product for our readers in both the print and online versions of the Gazette.
What’s ahead for GSG? Issue 3/2005, CRY FOR US, TOO, will feature another fine selection of fiction, liberally seasoned with haiga and a guest editorial from your favorite flash wrangler, Gary Cadwallader. This will be the first of the bigger and better quarterly issues, each of which will have 60% more pages of content than its bi-monthly sister, amounting to an increase in the annual total. More time between printing gives editors time to focus on selecting the best work to be presented. It also allows us to consider using original contributor art and expanding our remit to include comic strips and other creative ways of presenting the written word in an artistic context.
Are you a budding Picasso, Annie Liebowitz or Gary Larson? GSG invites your submissions of original art for our print magazine. We are looking for original art: paintings, drawings, photo essays, artistic photo collections, computer generated graphics, collages and comic strips and panels with some literary appeal.
No matter what form the Gazette takes, our primary focus is to deliver quality reading material matching the eclectic tastes of our discerning readers. We hope you will agree that these objectives are being met.
Now read on!
