Out and about in January 2003 By Sandra & Frank Gilbert

Apart from two special Friday nights of line dancing organized by Pete and Ann Dadd at the Chartdale Club in Clee Rd Grimsby our first night out in 2003 was at Lucarley's Club in Wilton Road Humberstone were the Missouri Raiders meet each Tuesday night it is a while since we visited this club and must say we were made most welcome, in a very nice refurbished room. Dave Bryan was the artist and in spite of being full of cold he put on a brilliant performance doing three great spots and a really good selection of true country songs which we thoroughly enjoyed, far to many to list but a few we particularly enjoyed were "California Blue, Riding with private Andrew Malone, Margaretville, Blue rose is, Bed of Roses and Me and Paul". The night as always at this club was brought to a close with the Trilogy. Thursday 16th was the first meeting of the year in the ballroom at the Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes for the Cleethorpes Country music Club. Advertised as one for the line dancers and it worked, the room was full but this was no surprise with Paul Bailey being the artist. Paul started and finish the evening with the same song "Just a Kiss" but in between he sung lots of songs some old and some new ones like "Love me forever, My little Girl, Don't walk away, Living without you and When I need you" all of which are featured on his latest cd's, but the one which brought a tear to the eye was "Some where in my Heart" which Paul dedicated to Michelle in memory of her father Ron Tinmurth who died last year. Ron had been a regular attender at this club from it's beginning and is greatly missed. The 23rd January saw our next night out again at the Winter Gardens but this time in the floral suite the CCMC had Harry Solo entertaining. It's quite a while since we had seen Harry and this was the first time we had seen him perform solo and we have to admit we were very impressed. Harry did three spots of good country numbers all of which were great to sit and listen to as well as the line dancers being able to dance to every single number. Two from each set, which we think deserves a mention, are "Neon moon, One night at a time, I just wanna dance with you, Waltz across Texas, Blue rose is, and There goes my heart" It really was a good night out and every one we spoke to said how much they had enjoyed it, if the applause was anything to go by were sure Harry Solo will be invited back to this Country Music Club before to long. The Cleethorpes Country Music Club had their last January meeting on the 30th and unfortunately with the east coast covered in snow it had an effect on the numbers attending as people from the Louth and other surrounding areas that normally support this club were unable to make the journey because many roads were impassable. About forty people turned up which was disappointing for the organizers but more so for the artist Darren Busby who after doing a great opening spot received the Peoples Award for Solo Artist of the Year 2001/2 from Gwen Taylor who had received it on his behalf at the Peoples award ceremony at Ocean Edge Heysham at the start of the year. The night continued with two more first class spots from Darren and in spite of the snow no one wanted to go home, with shout of more and more the show finished some twenty minutes late with everyone leaving happy as they should be after being entertained by Solo artist of the year 2000 /1 and 2001/2. Not a lot of Country music nights out during January but what we had were quality and we are looking forward to a full month in February
