Out and about in May 2003 By Sandra & Frank GilbertThursday May 1st local country artiest Dan Wesley started our May outings with our first visit of the month to the Cleethorpes Country music Club without being too critical Dan has not got any better than when we first saw him some two years ago, he is still doing lots of the same material and still trying to be funny with the same old jokes but we must say this didn't appear to take anything away from the night a larger than expected crowd created a really good atmosphere and as far as we are aware a good night was had by all. One week later the same club brought one of the kings of Country Line dancing Paul Bailey although we use the term Country loosely, Paul really is for line dancing doing all the modern songs for the dances like Just a kiss, Closer, Shakatac, Lovers hide away & Wishful Thinking to name a few. Numbers attending was slightly down on what we would have expected for Paul Bailey but ever one we spoke to said they had had a good night. Thursday 14th Dave Bryan from Wakefield made a welcome return to the CCMC. What a true professional this guy is he produced three first class spots with Country songs old and new which suited the listeners and dancers alike. Dave made certain everyone who attended had a very enjoyable night. It was also nice to see several new faces in the club this night. Thanks Dave hope you will be back soon. Tuesday 20th we visited Seymours club on the Thorpe Park Holiday park in Humberstone. This Holiday Club books around fourteen Country acts through Taylor Promotions for Tuesday nights during the summer season, during the intervals you can take part in a game of bingo or enjoy a very reasonably priced drink from the bar. The artiest there on our visit was Steve Chase from Nottinghamshire. Steve put on a first class show doing three great spots of good country songs for the 90% listening audience but including enough numbers to keep the line dancers who attended happy. Thursday 22nd we were back visiting the Winter Gardens were the Cleeethorpes Country Music Club staged one of their Summer Specials in the Ballroom with Jonny Williams and how he responded to being in this large room. We feel Jonny did the best show we have ever seen him do. During his three spots we enjoyed nearly two hours of country songs which included Using my Bible for a road map, You win again, Walk through this world, Don't the girls get pretty at closing time and one dedicated to Dale Green "The Streets of Bakersfield" with applause and shouts for more Jonny responded with a final number and brought a great night to a close. One week later in the same room we were back to enjoy another perfect night of Country Music with the one and only Darren Busby we see quite a lot of Darren's shows so sometimes it is difficult to write any thing different but this night we felt he made the night that little bit more special he did several new songs but made sure they suited the line Dancers and the many listeners alike. Thanks Darren we cannot think of anyone better to finish a great month of live country music. |
