The Wild Horse CMC at Louth was our first outing in February and well worth the journey through the snow to see our old friend Country artiest Steve Chase. Unfortunately this event was on the same night a two other events so numbers attending were down but this didn’t have any effect on the night there was a good atmosphere and Steve put on a great show of good country numbers including a couple he has wrote his self a few from the night were The Birmingham Turnaround, Guitar and Cadillac’s, Louisianan way, The Queen of Memphis, Past the Point of rescue, Tall Tall Trees, Tempted Blue, Rose is and All the way with you. Kris Davis was Keith’s choice of artist at the Ashby CMC on the 3rd and what a brilliant one. Kris put on a great three set show to a larger than of late crowd. There was a really good atmosphere and a good few dancers in which Kris picked up on so the dance floor was pretty full all night but he didn’t forget the listeners and did a really good mixture of thirty plus songs, a few I have picked out are Dirty little Town, The same thing happened to me, Steve Earls Copperhead Road, Raymond Froggett classic I Ride a Horse, Kenny Rogers The Gambler, Silver Wings, Mamma Tried, Louisiana Saturday Night, Toby Keith’s Beer for my Horses, Some Beach and Three Wooden Crosses. Friday the 9th we were at Ludford Village Hall to enjoy a great show preformed by the great Ollie Austin. It was nice to see a full audience, some regular attendees were missing but there were quite a few visitors that made the numbers up, some of which had travelled a long way to catch up with Ollie. The night started just after 8pm and apart from a couple of twenty minute breaks Ollie sung right through until eleven thirty. The dance floor was full best part of the night, but for many Ollie is great to sit and listen to with every thing live and no drowning backing tapes. In my next life, Louisiana Saturday Night, Here in the real world and Six day’s on the road were four songs from Ollie’s show which seemed to get extra applause. Cole Jackson was the next artist we went to see. Cole put on a good show at Ashby CMC on the 11th and kept both the listeners and dancers entertained right through the night with his interpretation of mostly well known country songs. A few I picked out from his three sets are California Blue, Swinging Doors, The Shelter of your eyes, Good old boy like me, Don’t rock the Juke box, Native America and Tall Tall trees. We were pleased to drop in at the Grimsby CMC on the 13th to see Paul Martin We have seen Paul a few times and although it appears he relies a lot on his backing tapes he always delivers a good show as he did this night. Toby Keith’s Beer for my Horses and Were are you going to go, Brooks and Dunn’s Neon Moon, Brad Paisley’s You Need a Man Around Here plus Some Beach, Don’t Close your eyes and Rodney Crowell Loving all night were a few which we enjoyed listening to. It was a pity there wasn’t a few more in the audience. We caught up with Dave Cash once again on the 17th at Ashby CMC. Dave was making his first visit here and sung three sets of country songs. Dave dose not play any instruments he just sings along to backing tapes with a bit of talking in between songs (my thoughts was a bit too much this night). Folsom Prison blues, Gypsy women, Three wooden crosses, Ring of Fire, Amanda, Welcome to my world Long Black Train and My best friend were a few songs from Dave’s show. In spite of threatening frost and fog a fair crowd turned out to see Steve Chase at Lucarley’s CMC on the 19th. Steve put on a really good three set show which he appeared to enjoy as much as the audience singing, ballads, country classics some self penned numbers but none of the modern line dance songs we sick of hearing. A songs few from Steve’s show are Some day’s are Diamond, Lady of Japan, When you leave that way you can never come back, Back to Basics Past the point of rescue, Copperhead Road, All the way with you and Tall Tall trees The Blue Nickel CMC at Scawby Village Hall was our Saturday night out this month to be entertained by The Saloon Drifters who put on a good show entertaining a fair crowd with three sets of country songs with great guitar work from Neil and plenty of wit and antics from John. I did enjoy the act these guys are good entertainers but the night it’s self was for me a disappointment the room on our side was cold, there seem little organization and there was no atmosphere which made the breaks seem far to long. Sunday 24th Garry Haynes who we have seen quite a bit over the last 8 years came to St Bernadette and put on what I consider the best show I have seen him do. Garry started with Chattahoochee and then just kept singing country song after song which had the dancers on the floor all night and the listeners singing and clapping along. There was a great atmosphere even though numbers were a little down. Tuesday 26th was the night we caught up with Natalie Diamond at Lucarley’s CMC. A good crowd had come along to support Natalie and she rewarded them with a good show which I really enjoyed during her three spots Natalie sung nearly forty songs which were a good mixture which suited the dancers and listeners alike. A few songs from tonight were A Little to Late, Why not me, Crying in the rain, Jambalaya, Write this down, Unloved me, Man in the Moon and Shine on Ruby Mountain. Richard Palmer returned to the Grimsby CMC on the 27th and since we hadn’t seen Richard for a while we decided to go but I was not impressed with Richard’s performance a big percentage of the show was for the line-dancers with numbers like Going through Hell, The Bossanova, Mr Mom and Ride the River etc. I like my dancing but I like truer Country songs when I visit country clubs were the majority attending are listeners. The sound from Richard’s equipment tonight didn’t sound quite right and the backing tracks were far too loud which made it difficult to hear the words. |
